About
Capturing the beauty and spirit of life around him in paint, is Ernie Norcia’s greatest professional goal and personal joy. Highly regarded for his work depicting the human figure, particularly portraits of people and pets, he also enjoys creating images of landscapes, flowers, animals, and the ordinary things he sees around him.
Ernie’s approach to painting is a result of serious studies into European and American traditions of representational painting. Artists such as Titian, Velazquez, Degas, Whistler and Sargent are personal favorites as well as significant sources of inspiration. His research into techniques of the great masters has enabled Ernie to develop his own approach based on traditional methods and materials to ensure the durability of his paintings. Although he works mostly in oils, he also enjoys creating finished pieces in watercolor, tempera, and charcoal. He believes that well composed images have a lasting impact on viewers while leaving a legacy for future generations.
Ernie’s paintings can be found in corporations, hospitals, universities and private collections. His work has received recognition from the Portrait Society of America, the Society of illustrators in NYC, and The American Artists Professional League. The Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences awarded Ernie an Emmy for art work on Carl Sagan’s “Cosmos” TV series. Originally from Connecticut, he graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, where his studies included an academic year of study in Italy. Ernie continued his training at the Maryland Institute College of Art where he received a Masters Degree in painting. As a resident of the Philadelphia area, he teaches a select number of private students while tending to ongoing private commissions from clients around the country.
